Hail Divinity!
In lieu of recent actions within the guild I felt it necessary to post a few of my thoughts.
Before I begin I would like to say that the things I am about to discuss do not apply to all. Conversely if the boot fits wear it.
Recently we have seen many members come and others have left. Some of the reasons for those that left were clear to me while others were not.
It was brought to my attention that one member inparticular left because of me. This same member would petition me 4-5 times for help every session I was in the realms. Initially I assisted him and then chose not to.
When I assist the good people of the Alliance I generally follow these guidelines:
#1 Is it the leadership requesting my help? 9.5 times out of 10 if a fellow Captain or the Divine Lord request I disagreeistance I will stop what I am doing to do what they ask.
#2 Are they a member of my guild? Guild members come first.
#3 Is my investment in time good with this guild member? In essence do I feel this member will stick with the guild. If not they become a low priority.
#4 How important is what it is they ask me to do? In other words do they just want a grind partner because they are in horde lands or are they on an elite quest that is very important to them.
#5 What benefit will I derive from this activity? Obviously if we share a quest it becomes more important to me.
Understand that I and the rest of the leadership want to help you Divinity! Our members are our most important asset! I want to invest in you - the quality member of Divinity!
Keep in mind that for about every hour I spend in the lands I receive about 3-5 whispers for assistance.
Additionally - My time right now is focused on grinding for my epic mount - and as some of you know I am dead set against buying gold; This activity takes away from the meaning of the game. Therefore I have to grind for my gold like most of you.
To the members that leave without a word - I will share some wisdom. As the humanoid species we tend to behave in one of two ways.
SILENCE <-------------------------------> VIOLENCE
In respect to our guild those that have left without a word are the silent one's. Those that get all huffy puffy and voice their messages and leave without discussion are the violent ones.
Well guess what??? Neither one of these are the correct way to deal with issues or disagreements.
In my mind the one's that are silent are followers. The one's that are violent are losers.
To find the correct way to handle the issues is to address the issues head on. If someone does something you don't like - leader / peer / suboordinate / then brind it up with them preferrably in a whisper - TACTFULLY and understanding of their feelings and their point of view. In case you are not aware of it we - as the humanoid species - all have differing views. It is difficult to get two people to agree on things let alone an entire guild.
Finally this guild is what you make of it! I just installed an add - on called cosmos (you can download your own version at: www.cosmosui.org/index.php?p=download
and per the stats out of 30+ guilds we are number 3 based on earned experience!
Only two other guilds have earned more experience than the rest of us. But I feel we have a suprise for everyone. Guess what? For the most part we have a loyal following! Most of our members have not yet reached their 60th Season! Well guess what is going to happen when they do?
Let me tell you all the best is yet to come! Some of you watched as I linked items from different instances and lands that you cannot touch unless you have 20 man or 40 man raids. This will be our reward for remaining steadfast and loyal.
Finally Vent! If you don't have it I urge you all to get it! Someone - I suspect Molukai - paying for this service!!!
It seems if you can afford the subscription you should be able to afford a set of head phones and mic. For those that are reluctant for whatever reason - I felt the same way. You know what found out? The social atmosphere and feelings you have for other members grow considerably. You really get to know each other and develop respect when you use vent. The final reason to use Vent is that it will be necessary to participate when you go on a raid with the guild.....On the higher end raids the time you save talking vs. typing is HUGE!
Divinity! A call to Arms! The best is yet to come! Let us perservere once more!
May the light brighten your way, The shadow add to your riches, and if you fall - fall forward!
