I was a druid once and what surprised me about it is it's adaptability.
When you start the game with it you will be learning each spell's and ability's individual usefulness, first your humanoid form spells, then bear form skills, followed by cat form abilities.
Later on, as you gain Talent points, you then effectively choose which you will concentrate in as well as having the possibility of respecking.
You are thus a dapt to situation by taking:
There are many forms to specialise in.
The form of a bear (thus gaining more armor and Health)
The form of a cat (Thus becomming a support DPS)
The form of an owlbear (Thus becoming a spellcaster)
The form of the tree of life (Thus becoming a healer)
The druid can take on any of these aspects.
Best Proffession for a druid in my opinion:
Alchemy.
Alchemy boosts many statistics and augments your might and survivability if you are wise in your decision of 'forms'. Since Leatherworking (items) can never compete with most of the items you can find normally within the game I find that it's not very useful for a Druid compared to ability buffs and boosts that Alchemy can provide.
---------------------------------------------------------
The epitome of adaptability
---->Do not forget that you have the 2-4 forms you can rely on)
The bear and Dire bear:
The first of the many aspects to come is the bear. You gain extroardinary % bonuses to your AC (Leather) in this form you can outlast and take on much more in strong armor. You effectively become a tank having agroing abilities and strength boosts as well as your Mark of the beast.
The Cat
The cat can stealth as well as deal fast medium amounts of damage. Effectively he is a DPS and posesses many similarities with the rogue. The cat can also lower ennemies' armor with Feral Faerie fire.
Moonkins
Have good armor and effectively is a high damage dealer such as a mage. He possesses a lightning storm as well as being able to heal with certain spells.
Tree of life
You effectively become a healer. Watch your agro and mana. Do no overheal and only heal when necessary. (Of course you have to... but to do it and be concervative of your mana is another thing entirely)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
As you now understand you can become a druid specializing in one of these trees:
:::Balance:::
Balance is for the druid looking to become much more involved in casting and damage-dealing. Most of the talents augment damage outputs of certain spells. And adds additional effects to others. The ability to turn into a Moonkin and thus augmenting your armor is a significant advantage. Especially since casting damage spells usually results in a high output of threat. The cream of the corn of this talent tree is the ability to summon 3 Tree ents.
Not only does this talent tree make you a spellcasting damage dealer but it also makes you mutch tougher to kill than other spellcasters (ie Priests, mages. warlock) in the sence that you can create powerful creeps (for a short period) and have much more armor.
/moonkin dance!
:::Feral:::
Feral druids tend to concentrate with one of their forms to the expense of the other.
As a bear he can tank and as a Cat he can DPS. I would suggest the bear be the most utilised form in battle and that the cat be used to pass undetected from mobs and the horde.
The Restoration tree also helps a Feral-oriented druid. When going Feral you don't necessarilly have to concentrate in the tree only. Watch for any other talent within the other trees that boosts or enhances your chosen form. Such as 'Furor'
:::Restorative:::
Many of the talents in Restoration decrease threat when casting healing spells, reduces mana cost and effective of healing spells. This talent tree is for a druid looking to become an effective healer.
The form unlocked within this talent tree is 'The tree of life'. In this form the caster can do nothing but heal effectively becoming a 'home-base' for the party in times of trouble.
Since the tree of life does not receive any extra armor and the druid's land speed is reduced significantly. It's imperative that the druid use this ability only when they knowingly enter a tough battle, or when the party experiences difficulties. Even when transformed into the tree of life, it's important to concerve mana and watch your treat.
