THE HUNTER
As a hunter myself I wish for you to retain only 2 words that most describe the hunter's damaging: Gorilla Warfare.
Hit and run tactics
You are a master 'kitter' able to pull ennemies back and forth between yourself and your pet.
Making you a particularly tough solo-artist capable of taking on many mobs at the same time and lasting longer than most in those situations.
Dictate the battlefield!
SET DOWN TRAPS!
Adept in any situation
With aspects, different kinds of stings and a pet at your side. You are prepared for any kind of class that might come your way.
Your Mana stings drains spellcaster's abilities,
scorpid stings lowers the damage melee fighters deal to you.
You are adept in melee as well as ranged fighting and your pet will always deal it's damage regardless of any circumstances.
(Unless killed of course)
----------------------------------
Races : Night elf and Dwarf
Night elf
As a night elf myself I can't tell you the number of times:
*Shadow meld*
has either won me a battle or saved my life. It is a valuable racial skill that should be used often by hunters. Especially those with pets with the Prowl ability. With these 2 skills you can basically send your pet in to deal a fairly substansual amount of damage without even showing yourself and having the complete element of surprise. And when you do appear, most ennemies will be confused enough to make errors.
Dwarf
Dwarves possess much stamina and as such I suggest for them to become survivalists more-so than Markmen perhaps also abeastmasters. It all depends on your choice of abilities and selection. Stoneskin can make you physically capable of taking damage for a long time-hence why I suggested dwarves become survivalist which are more-often found in melee situations.
Draenei [NEW]
This new race has the ability to heal itself and to boost a party's combat capabilities. Since the Draenei have the ability to heal not only themselves but any other party member then this is a perfect survival skill for the hunter!
---------------------------------------
The Beastmaster
Pros
The Beastmaster talent tree increases your pet to become a great threat in battle. It will also augment your own armor and health substancially.
Depending on the pet you will want to choose well within the tree. Frenzy is of no great use for a slow attacking pet. It's true power is harnessed through fast attackers such as bats, cats, serpents or spiders.
Cons
If your pet is disabled or rendered useless then you loose most of your damage potential. It would be wise to invest in other venues for this possibility.
Remediating the cons: Be prepared to invest points in either Marksmanship or Survival. A pure Beastmaster will be at a disadvantage against certain pvp ennemies that can disable your pet.
---------------------------------------
The Marksman
Pros
The real damage potential of a hunter is reached not in melee or his pet but in his bow or gun. The Marksman deals fast and sometimes very high amounts of damage on crits if all of their armor concentrate purely agility.
Cons
If you are caught in melee range or without the ability to use your arrows, the integrity of your spec becomes utterly useless.
Remediating the Cons: Do not forget that as a hunter you have many movement hampering abilties such as frost traps, wingclip, concussive shot and aspect of the cheetah. Just be ready and able to use these abilities to your advantage if not then by putting certain points in Survival will help these abilities.
-------------------------------------------
The Survivalist
Pros
If you tend to find yourself in melee more often than range, then the Survivalist talent tree will both toughen you up as well as give you the tool to deal the most damage when caught 1-1. Dodge and parry are a hunter's main assets here and should be looked upon more closely.
Cons
Not a particularly powerful build but one that will make you a bit more surly in combat. It's often a support tree for other builds. It has to do mostly with melee abilities.
Remediating the cons: Of course not solely concentrating on thist talent tree would in itself remediate the cons. lol. Best coupled with Beastmastery-in my opinion.
--------------------------
MY BUILDS!!!!
THE GORILLA HUNTER
A hybrid hunter brings out this class's FULL potential giving:
A powerfully damage dealing pet with high armor, health and damage capabilities.
One of the unique and most important aspect of being a hunter is your pet's ability to deal constant damage unless either taken out physically or impaired (feared, crowd controlled). This build enhances the purilly physical and important elements that make your pet a valuable asset to your class.
A decent range damage dealing archer
The hunter is the only physical non-spellcasting class to deal descent range attack damage. This ability to deal damage from a distance makes you incredibly versatile as you can still deal damage from any distance with this build. Wether it be close or long range, the gorilla hunter is comfortable in both.
An excellent melee fighter that can withstand fighter classes.
Most hunters underestimate their melee capabilities for the more common range skills that a marksman possess. But more often then not, a hunter will be stuck in melee with a warrior, a rogue or any other class that thinks you are a marksman. With an incredible chance to parry and dodge, as well as possessing high armor and health, you will be able to survive these melee only encounters and turn the tide of battle your way.
Beast Mastery Talents - 16 point(s)
# Endurance Training - rank 5/5
# Improved Aspect of the Monkey - rank 3/3
# Thick Hide - rank 3/3
# Unleashed Fury - rank 5/5
E.T. and T.H. will increase both you and your pet's stamina and armor, making you much more resilient to melee and hunter range attacks.
U.F increases your pet's damage output and
Imp. Aspect of the monkey increases your chance to dodge by up to 6%! Which is not a laughable amount.
Marksmanship Talents - 14 point(s)
# Lethal Shots - rank 5/5
# Improved Hunter's Mark - rank 5/5
# Efficiency - rank 3/5
# Aimed Shot - rank 1/1
Improved hunter's mark makes your range AND melee attacks more effective. Not only does it help you but during instances it helps your party's tank and other melee damage dealers as well!
Survival Talents - 21 point(s)
# Humanoid Slaying - rank 3/3
# Savage Strikes - rank 2/2
# Deflection - rank 5/5
# Clever Traps - rank 2/2
# Survivalist - rank 5/5
# Deterrence - rank 1/1
# Trap Mastery - rank 2/2
