Doubt many people here play the 360 much but for those of you that do Assassins Creed is the first episode of the trilogy and this explains the ending.

MY THOUGHTS:
I think that at the end you destroy the orb fragmenting it into the pieces you see scattered amongst the globe. This way in case one person gains a fragment another may do the same to help combat that person if he is evil. In the second game i have a feeling that each assassination mission will be in different parts of the world. Once part 3 comes out and after the explanation of the bleeding effect in part 1 i think that Desmond will gain all the Creed abilities and fight the Knights Templar in the modern day city as himself.
